A few days ago, I had one of those moments that remind you exactly why you do what you do.
I had the honor of sharing my photography knowledge with a group of passionate young people. We spent three hours together diving into everything I’ve learned over the years — but more than just talking about lenses and lighting, we shared stories, dreams, and purpose.
Because teaching isn’t just about techniques… it’s about connection, impact, and inspiration.
Last year was unforgettable. I was named Best Maternity and Newborn Photographer in Florida and Best Photographer in Jacksonville.
These awards weren’t just titles — they were a personal victory over one of the biggest battles of my life: Crohn’s disease.
For the past 20 years, photography has been my therapy. A creative outlet that helped me manage stress and reclaim peace in the midst of a chronic illness. Every photo I took was a small act of healing.
So this year, I made a powerful decision:
To focus less on winning, and more on giving.
Then, life placed something special in my path — a contest called “Connecting Mind with the Lens.”
A beautiful initiative focused on young people and mental health, using photography as a way to explore emotion and creativity.
When I was invited to be a judge, I immediately said yes.
But then something even more meaningful happened…
I was also given the opportunity to lead a photography workshop for the participants.
And that, right there, felt like the real prize.
During the workshop, I didn’t just teach about aperture, ISO, or framing.
I shared how photography became my safe space.
How creating beauty helped me survive pain.
How every image we take is a reflection of how we see — and feel — the world.
Watching those young minds light up as they discovered the power of visual storytelling… it was magic.
I’m deeply grateful to those who created this contest and trusted me to be part of it.
To the amazing young participants — thank you for your courage, your questions, and your dreams.
This experience reminded me that the most powerful thing we can give is what we’ve already overcome.
If you’re an artist, photographer, or someone who’s found healing through creativity — don’t keep your story to yourself.
There’s someone out there who needs to hear it.
